Part of the parish of Delting, Brae lies 23 miles north of Shetland’s capital town of Lerwick.
There are 5 main housing developments accommodating Brae’s population of approximately 1200 - Moorfield, Grindahoull, Skelladale, Vista Vird and Roebrek plus many areas of private development and single dwellings well spread out around the head of picturesque Busta Voe.
The main junction in Brae is the crossroads to the north - where you can find areas of outstanding natural beauty in the parish of Northmavine such as the spectacular cliffs of Eshaness, and the sandstone Isle of Muckle Roe.
Most of the employment opportunities in Brae are related to either the local airport at Scatsta, the Sullom Voe Oil terminal, the service industries that accommodate workers and visiting contractors for the oil industry or the thriving aquaculture industry.
