MATHS FUN DAY - THURSDAY 12TH MAY - BRAE COMMUNITY HALL
Forty-two North Mainland primary 7’s joined together last Thursday (12th May) for the annual Maths Fun Session as part of their transition to secondary school.
The Maths department used a grant from the Edinburgh Mathematical Society School Enrichment Fund to provide a morning of activities. It is aimed to provide an enjoyable mathematics experience for children of all mathematical abilities and encourage pupils to believe that Maths really is Fun!
There were four rounds the pupils were put through, from written problem solving in teams, hands on practical work – well done to Mr Kirkness for trying the Swap it challenge. Pupils also experienced a model aeroplane round and finally a relay with a difference.
All pupils received certificates and prizes were given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
Mrs Batty from the Maths department said ‘The pupils did themselves and their schools proud today. Their behaviour was perfect and their attitude to all activities was absolutely brilliant! We have collected feedback from them and they all said they thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it was a good way to meet up with their new year group before August.
Mrs Batty would like to thank the primaries, Mrs Morrison and Miss Marwick for their support, the S3’s for their supervisory roles on the day, and especially the EMS School Enrichment Fund as without their grant we could not put this on for the pupils.
Planning their aircrafts!
Will this really fly? Connel asks Helen.
Zevf and Sammy try out the practical round. Leona and Craig try out their luck.
Vaila desperate to complete her challenge! Sarah desperate to get her question correct.
